About AGILE100

#Covid19 hit most of the world by surprise. Suddenly, everything changed. Business as usual – gone… at least for an unknown period of time. For us, #Covid19 accelerated the pace to bring our offerings to the digital world. We started out with live online training and created a bunch of videos. But then we asked ourselves, what opportunities are out there to drive our mission forward? After all, we want to make society more productive, more humane, and more sustainable.

Our AGILE100 virtual conference series aims to bring the knowledge and experience of the world’s top 100 agile thinkers and speakers to everyone across the globe. We want to embrace the latest technology to help spread the best ideas. At our core, we believe that people with access to knowledge and information can tackle any challenge and make our world more productive, more humane, and more sustainable.

“Love in the Time of Corona – Psychological safety, trust, and the cognitive dissonance of virtual environments”

By Joseph Pelrine

A basic tenet of agility is responding to change, but what happens when the change is too overwhelming to cope with?

What happens when the desire for psychological safety and team intelligence hits the reality of COVID-19, home office, and social distancing? What happens when virtual boundaries endanger the social mores of decorum and politeness in human interaction? What happens when the rules of communication and trust vanish behind bandwidth issues? And what can you do about this?

Join us to hear a psychologist’s perspective on how to build trust and psychological safety in a virtual working environment.

As one of the world’s most experienced experts in Agile methods, Joseph Pelrine has spent 25 years defining and refining processes to help some of the world’s most well-known companies improve their ability to satisfy the needs of their customers. As a psychologist, his focus on people and his experience in applying leading-edge techniques from social complexity and psychology to process optimisation goes far beyond the domain of software development and extends to the whole organisation.

A respected coach, trainer, and manager, Joseph provides coaching and counselling to Agilists and their companies. He also conducts research in novel applications of psychology to agile processes, and in his free time is a PhD researcher in psychology and psycholinguistics.

“Coaching Teams Through Change”

By Heidi Helfand

How does team assignment work at your company?

What do you want it to be like? I see team assignment as a continuum of freedom and choice. In this talk I’ll go over the 6 parts of the continuum, from less to more freedom: Someone “at the top” puts people on a team, managers put people on a team without their input, managers include input when assigning people to a team, managers/leadership arrange self-selection events, team members trade places, then tell managers and team members form their own teams.  How people get assigned to teams influences the resulting team dynamic, time to transition over to the new team and feelings of ownership and inclusion.

Heidi Helfand is author of the book Dynamic Reteaming. She coaches software development teams using practical, people-focused techniques, with the goal of building resilient organizations as they double and triple in size.  Heidi is currently Director of R&D Excellence at Procore Technologies.   She draws on her vast experience from coaching there, as well as at AppFolio and Citrix Online, where Heidi was on the original development team that invented GoToMeeting and GoToWebinar. Heidi is based in Southern California.
