Course Overview

This self-paced online course (SPOC) is designed to help you embark on your Product Owner journey. We want to provide you with all the tools and techniques needed to help you and your team build better products i.e. products that serve your customers well and also work for the business.

This course is full of practical models that help you get systematically from idea generation (i.e. discovery) to product development (i.e. delivery). We will share a ton of visuals with you to make learning stick. And, we will tell many stories from the work we have done with various clients and teams.

Enjoy this course from the comfort of your home, your office, or a beach in Thailand… We created this course with the intention to make learning easier and more sustainable. So dive in, learn, ask, and let us know how you liked it.

What you’ll get from this course

Product Ownership or Product Management is anything but trivial. A great Product Owner has the skills and capabilities to systematically address the uncertainties in building products that customers love and that work for the business.

It all starts out with understanding what problem needs to be solved or which customer desire needs to be addressed. We will deep dive into Design Thinking and learn a bunch of tools including the Empathy Map, the Value Proposition Canvas and Personas to better understand customers and capture the insights about them.

Then, we will use these insights to craft a compelling Product Vision/Goal and design a business model around it. We will demonstrate that the Business Model Canvas is great in making assumptions transparent and how these assumptions can be systematically tested.

Next, we will dive into the day-to-day work of any Product Owner i.e. creating, refining, and prioritizing a Product Backlog. You will learn how to support your Developers’ effort estimation and how the same technique can be applied for value estimation and ultimately prioritization.

Finally, we will share with you how great Product Owners create Product Roadmaps in an agile setting and how they track progress against that roadmap.

  • Understand Scrum and Agile from the perspective of a Product Owner
  • Learn how to systematically go from customer understanding to creating a Product Backlog
  • Create your personal Product Owner toolbox for working on your Product Backlog
